Pyrene‐Derived Carbon Nanomembranes Selectively Pass Metal Ions in Water

چکیده

Despite the potential environmental benefits, use of membranes for extracting, reclaiming, and purifying alkali metals from aqueous feedstocks remains challenging due to low inter-cation selectivity. Two-dimensional materials equipped with nanoscale pores have revealed intriguing performance in ion separation, but their practical implementation is bottlenecked by perforation procedures. This work presents electrodialysis experiments intrinsically porous carbon nanomembranes (CNMs) that are featured a high areal density sub-nanometer channels. The free-standing prepared pyrene shown great mechanical strength narrow pore size distribution enabling selective passage metal ions. CNMs can sieve hydrated cations following order K+ > Na+ Li+ Ca2+ Mg2+, while K+/Mg2+, Na+/Mg2+, Li+/Mg2+ selectivity amounts 220, 86, 13 respectively. It found transport attributed combined effect small dimensions electrostatic exclusion induced surface charges. has been also observed membrane thickness range 3 6.5 nm little impact on which suggests interesting implications batteries other energy conversion systems.

Charge exchange and energy loss of slow highly charged ions in 1 nm thick carbon nanomembranes.

Experimental charge exchange and energy loss data for the transmission of slow highly charged Xe ions through ultrathin polymeric carbon membranes are presented. Surprisingly, two distinct exit charge state distributions accompanied by charge exchange dependent energy losses are observed. The energy loss for ions exhibiting large charge loss shows a quadratic dependency on the incident charge s...

Well dispersed single-walled carbon nanotubes with strong visible fluorescence in water for metal ions sensing.

A novel and simple method to prepare well dispersed single-walled carbon nanotubes with strong visible fluorescence in water is reported. The visible fluorescence was found to be responsive to pH value and metal ions, and tunable emission ability of oxidized SWCNTs depending on the excitation wavelength and a novel self-excitation and emission process were found.

Implantation of multiply charged carbon ions in water ice

Context. Several objects in the Solar System like Europa, Ganymede and Callisto have frozen surface (main component: H2O). The associated thickness is bigger than the penetration depth of the relevant projectile ions. Additionally, other species such as H2O2, SO2 and CO2 have been detected on these surface. The formation mechanisms of these molecules are still under discussion. Aims. We present...
